EAA News - New Member Benefit: Free Admission to Hundreds of Great Museums

EAA News - New Member Benefit: Free Admission to Hundreds of Great Museums

In a note received from EAA, you only get the passes for those museums greater than 90 miles from home, so if you're traveling check the list!  If you check the link in the EAA post, we should have free admission to the Evergreen Air and Space Museum, but not the local Puget Sound attractions! Note that there are some restrictions and your EAA membership wont' get you discounts in the gift shops or other special events.

April Meeting - Lake Hills Library

Our most recent meeting was held last Tuesday evening, 7:00 PM at the Lake Hills Library. We were all pretty much anticipating a low turnout due to the alternate location, but we were all pleasantly surprised with an attendance of about 20 to hear what Joe Hull had to say about his close brush with certain stardom.

AirVenture 2010 NOTAM

You know it's starting to get close, and winter behind us when the official Airventure NOTAM is released. See www.airventure.org/flying/2010_NOTAM.pdf

There doesn't seem to be too many changes this year, but if you're planning on attending, make sure to know the material; there's a test at the end!

New Eat'n Places Coming Soon

From the NW Flying Blog, it appears that the resturaunt at Elma will be opening in May with a 1/2 pound burger as the house speciality!

From records at Arlington, it also looked like there were a couple entities trying to start up the old cafe. Hopefully someone can figure out how to successfully run a resturaunt at that location. Let us know if you hear of any new news on either one of these new eat'n places.

April Meeting - Lake Hills Library

NOTE: LOCATION CHANGE!

The April Meeting will be held at Lake Hills Library off of 148th in Bellevue (15228 Lake Hills Blvd, Bellevue, WA) this month due to non-availability of the Redmond Library.

Meeting will be held on April 20th, 7:00 PM.
This month's meeting topic will be a video program presented by Joe Hull, based on his and Tom Stagg's exploits north of the border to assist in the filming of a TV series. I suspect that the video may be somewhat short, so bring your project updates as well!
Pre-Meeting dinner will be at the Red Robbin, near Sears at the corner of 148th and NW 24th St off 520.

Tech Tip - Freeing Rusty Nuts

I picked up the following on the Matronics Aero-Electric List. For anyone dealing with electrics, this is a must-view site with quick responses to questions by AeroElectric author Bob Nuckolls.

Penetrating Oils Compared
Machinist's Workshop magazine actually tested penetrants for break out torque on rusted nuts. Significant results! They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" environment.
Penetrating oil Average load
None ..................... 516 pounds
WD-40 .................. 238 pounds
PB Blaster ..............214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ...... 127 pounds
Kano Kroil ............ 106 pounds
ATF-Acetone mix... 53 pounds

The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50 - 50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone.
Note: The "home brew" was better than any commercial product in this one particular test. A local machinist group mixed up a batch and all now use it with equally good results. Note also that "Liquid Wrench" is about as good as "Kroil" for about 20% of the price.

4th Annual Fantasy Field Fly-In: June 19th

Hello to Everyone!

Good golly, has it been a year ALREADY?  Yes we are preparing for the 4TH ANNUAL FANTASY FIELD FLY-IN, hosted by Kelly and Terry Sullivan.

I can’t get over the amount of emails I have received about this year’s fly-in! Thank you all for your support and encouragement. This year our fly-in will be on Saturday June 19th, which is the day before Father's Day.  We had to move it up a week due to some scheduling conflicts with the SuperCub Competition up north on the following weekend. Kelly likes to attend that competition and show those Cub drivers how to fly!!!
